Product Information

Safi is the cradle of the oldest functional kilns. Master potters still make their goods the same way their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. Very little if no evidence of modern techniques are seen in the making of these beautiful pieces. Potters and their helpers still mix the clay by walking on the mix until it is reduced to a heterogeneous mix. Once put on the foot operated potter's wheel, the master potter than uses his techniques to mold his pieces before sending them to the Kilns that still use burning dried hardwood to bake. The last stage of the process is the decorating one. Vases, Canister, Spice Jars, Tagines etc... are painted with vivid colors and a crackle glaze. The last stage in decorating with a hand stamped metal adornment and very often a Henna painted Camel Bone is added specially in plates and vases.
